Here are two different takes on a deeply disturbing story. The coverage of the Acorn “voting fraud” story and it’s strategic political implications has been poor at best and deliberately misleading at worst.
These two view points are realities apart.
ACORN issue not vote fraud, but vote suppression by Donna Brazile
Donna explicitly calls explains how the GOP will attempt to use this story to divert attention from voter suppression techniques, which are currently happening. As well as using the so called “Bradley Effect” to explain away any last minute changes that aren’t evident in the polls. This systematic suppression of votes is a direct assault on our countries values and foundation not to mention cynical and racist.
ACORN’s actions threaten integrity of voting by Tara Wall
Tara makes a case for and accuses ACORN of a racist pursuit of voters in areas with a high minority population. While some of ACORN’s methods may lead to false registrations and result in disenfranchisement these actions and methods can be corrected and are not malicious in their intent. There is no evidence that these false registrations will lead to voting fraud.
This story has nothing to do with being a Republican or Democrat. Our basic right to vote hangs in the balance. The past two elections have tarnished this fundamental right. The trust of the American people in fair and open elections is the basis of our democracy. This cannot be allowed to happen.
